La Casa de Marilyn
After purchasing my famous “casa” on the Internet, even though I had never seen it in real life and had never set foot in Costa Rica, I left everything in Quebec to settle in this beautiful, warm little country with my cat Monsieur. I then quickly started renting rooms! I have welcomed many of my readers as well as travelers from all over the world under my roof.
Alongside my activities as a writer and hostess (and owner!) of La Casa de Marilyn (I did and took care of practically everything, alone. Housekeeping, maintenance, rental, transport...) I also literally transformed the house to breathe a little breath of fresh air into it. I repaired it, painted it, arranged it, I cleaned and transformed the energies and I also worked a lot in the field (planted, sowed... flowers, fruit trees...) In short, I tried to create a peaceful and pleasant place where life was good, for me, my traveling companion, Monsieur, the cat, and the many guests!
The house you see in the photos is therefore the result of my labors. At the time of my purchase, it was, among other colors, red/rusty pink and gray. I was able to give it this little air of youth!
Beaches, settings, guests and hosts!
The “casa” was located in a gated community with a gatehouse and guard at the entrance, in the heart of nature, and surrounded by lush vegetation and the most diverse wildlife. Throughout their stay, guests encountered monkeys, lizards, iguanas... And much more! Not forgetting the magnificent beaches (and different settings!), generally deserted and heavenly, which were a few minutes walk from the house.
Over the years, I have welcomed travelers of all kinds, from many different countries. I have had different experiences and situations by meeting them and also by meeting local Costa Ricans and my neighbors! (You can read several of my adventures experienced at La Casa de Marilyn, in my novels, among others in the volume 3 of the Marilyn series and in the volume 1 of the Angel's Diary series). I have met beautiful souls, some lost, others not... I have had sweeter and more pleasant experiences... Others less so! On the other hand, I grew and learned from each of them.
On site, I accompanied vacationers who wanted it in several and different ways, either by helping them plan their vacation (by booking different activities and transportation, among other things!), or even, I could help them translate the language of the country, Spanish (and even English!)... Occasionally, when time allowed, I even went on an expedition with some of them. I also offered meditation and training sessions to those who wanted them. Despite my different occupations, I tried to spend quality time with everyone, whether outside, or around good food, or in the evening chatting on the terrace or around the pool admiring the marvelous starry sky!
It was with my faithful companion, Monsieur, already around 9 years old, when he took the plane for the first time to accompany me on this wonderful journey, that I experienced the entire adventure of La Casa de Marilyn as well as my first years under the warm Costa Rican sun. My little man has greatly impressed me in this new life in the Costa Rican jungle. With my encouragement, he became a beautiful and strong little lion who protected the guests and the territory in his own way. He also knew how to make everyone love him. (And knew how to get what he wanted, indirectly! ;))
On the road...
After a few years at La Casa de Marilyn, I sold it... Then I took a ride on the bumpy roads of Costa Rica. Then, I took off towards Italy. Along the way, I lost my faithful companion, Monsieur. Despite my pain, I continued on my way. His death made it easier for me to travel here and there, in Europe and elsewhere.
I even volunteered in Nepal, among other places. (You can read more about this topic on the pageVolunteering.) I lived out of my suitcases for a few years. As a nomad, I wandered with the wind. I have sometimes lived in terrible conditions... And other times, in more comfortable places. I met people from all over the world.
After two years on the road, I returned to Costa Rica, where I experienced a whole range of adventures. I learned to ride a motorcycle, among other things, and I traveled all over the country. At one point I also lived with a group. Then, I rented rooms, I managed tourist places. Throughout these years, I generally lived very simply. But, I knew how to manage.
You can read my adventures as a Nomad, in the novel of the same name. And in Lost in Maui and Illusion.(Although unlike my other novels, From one life to another does not tell the adventures of Marilyn, it is also inspired by my adventures on the road and elsewhere. And people I met along the way!) I've had too many adventures to recount them all here.
